About

Experienced award-winning writer with a focus on tech

My background is in newspaper journalism (The Guardian, The Observer, The Sunday Times). I also worked as a novelist (the movie of my first novel won a Silver Bear at the 2007 Berlin International Film Festival).

But tech is a longstanding passion and I now write mainly about digitalisation across manufacturing, industry and the energy sector. Clients include Microsoft and Kimberly-Clark. I've also written about biotech and angel investing.

With longer standing clients I take on an executive support role, penning investor presentations, white papers, strategy documents and board reports.

I'm fluent in Italian, having lived and worked in Sicily for several years.

'Hamlet meets the Wasp Factory' haha

I started out in newspaper journalism in Edinburgh and won UK Young Journalist of the Year for an investigation that brought Operation Sandcastle into the public realm. It exposed previously classified documents describing how and where the UK government dumped old stocks of biological and chemical weapons in UK waters after WW2.

Writing fiction became my day job for a few years when I moved to Sicily. My first novel Hallam Foe became a movie in 2007. I learned the language, got married, became a dad, wrote several commissioned screenplays, did some university teaching gigs in Vienna, and kept up with journalism before we returned to Edinburgh. Aside from writing, I am also director of a risk management software business called Bilancio Ltd

What I can do for you

My main role is to communicate your business effectively through articles, blogs and white papers. But with more established clients I also take on a close consultancy role, discussing ideas for the business and refining strategy documents, investor proposals and board reports.
